Why balance is important
Getting the right work/life balance is becoming increasingly important to many of us. Recent surveys suggest that nearly 50% of people don't feel they have the time nor the energy to lead the lives they want and that one in four people talk of significant conflict between work and home.
Being out of balance can have a negative impact on health, wellbeing, relationships, career, satisfaction and happiness. For organisations this means poor performance, low morale, increased absenteeism and higher staff turnover. Latest studies suggest that as many as one in three managers will change jobs just to get a better work/life balance!

Getting a better balance in life generally can involve working out how best to fit all the pieces together and indeed if all the bits are there in the first place. Is there something missing from your life perhaps? Often as time passes the things that are important to us slip further down the list of priorities or even fall off the list all together! We may even have lost sight of what really matters to us in the first place and need to re-focus.
People sometimes talk of not having enough fun or of too little adventure or of no spontaneity in their lives. They may also notice that personal fulfilment is lacking or that they are not paying enough attention to their own needs like health, exercise, creativity or personal development.
Sometimes there is a sense of not living up to responsibilities to friends, family or partners or indeed their wider community. It can be important to feel we are achieving the right balance in 'giving to self' and 'giving to others' , achieving this can contribute to a feeling of purpose, satisfaction and greater peace of mind.
